Im omid, welcome to my Page
I'm currently a second-year Master's student at EPFL, studying as an exchange student. I originally come from the beautiful and historic city of Rome, and my background is in industrial engineering.I have to say, I absolutely love the startup and entrepreneurship community! While I was in Italy, I joined a startup program, which turned out to be an amazing experience. In just three months, we developed our idea into a working MVP.Our concept was a really cool virtual try-on platform that lets users try on clothes online. The goal was to help reduce the cost of returns for companies in the online fashion space and, at the same time, contribute to environmental sustainability. It was an exciting project, and I'm proud of what we accomplished! Its name is anywear you can visit it by clicking the following bottom
How EPFL Impact Me

There was a time when I dreamed of studying at a prestigious university. I remember back in 2018, while preparing for my university entrance exam, I wrote down "Mechanical Engineering, #Sharif" on a piece of paper as my goal. When the results came in, I got accepted into Industrial Engineering at Kharazmi University instead.Looking back, even though I didn’t end up in the field or university I originally wanted, I’m proud that I followed through on the promise I made to myself. Kharazmi gave me the time and space to work on myself and my skills, which led to my growth. When it came time to apply for my Master's, I repeated this process—I took a piece of paper and wrote "Stanford" on it. I’m not joking, I really wrote it down. I studied for four years, but not only did I not get into Stanford, I couldn’t even secure admission to a top 100 university. But I chose to keep moving forward. I changed my major to Data Science for my Master's, and after a year, I received an acceptance letter from EPFL. Honestly, I couldn’t believe it—even when I arrived and took a photo in front of EPFL, it still felt surreal. But it happened, and part of it is thanks to that note I wrote!
My Tech background
I have a solid understanding of data science programming languages like Python and R, and I've worked on some really cool projects using them.Since I’m a big fan of math, I also consider myself pretty skilled at digging into the theory behind deep learning and AI—it’s something I really enjoy figuring out!you have a look, check some of projects I did last year in Sapienza.

My Journey Into Genetics and Genomics
Biology has always fascinated me, especially how it shapes our world in ways we often take for granted. From life-saving drugs like insulin to groundbreaking advancements like gene editing, biology is rewriting the rules of medicine. The idea that we can tweak our DNA to reduce the risk of diseases is mind-blowing — and that’s what sparked my curiosity.
Here, you'll find one of my assignments on ethnicity prediction. The concept is simple: people who are born and raised in the same geographical location tend to share similar genetic variations. We can use this information to detect ethnicity and trace our ancestors. This has practical implications because certain diseases are associated with specific ethnic groups, and understanding our genetic background can help in identifying health risks. Beyond that, it’s pretty cool to learn where we come from! Companies like 23andMe are already offering services like this, giving us insights into our ancestry and genetic health.
